Zimbabwe's largely underexplored Greenstone Belts represents what is widely seen as one of the most exciting gold exploration opportunities in Africa today. The country's geology is on par with Tanzania and Australia, both major producing regions. As an indication of the untapped potential, Zimbabwe's gold production was higher than Australia's in the early 1980s.
Whetstone's Zimbabwe assets, the Bembesi Properties, have a legacy of gold production and an existing resource base of 230,000 ounces (non-code compliant) as verified by previous operators and indepedent authors. In addition, Whestone has identified a number of acquisition targets in Zimbabwe as a part of its planned expansion programme, which have the potential to enable the company to deliver a multi-million ounce resource base and propel it to a mid-tier gold producer.
